Discover Spain!

Video: 50 Experiences in Spain

Endless pristine beaches, World Heritage sites, National Parks, a delicious and healthy Mediterranean diet, a lively atmosphere, welcoming people...we don't like to boast, but Spain has everything!

Here is a small selection of things we recommend you to do at least once in your life in Spain….

Things to do:

Visit a World Heritage Site

Be prepared to immerse yourself in a culture with thousands of years of history! Spain is home to the third largest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world (48 in total!), including 15 World Heritage Cities, prehistoric settlements, national parks and biosphere reserves of exceptional natural beauty.

Enjoy some delicious tapas!

If you are a foodie, Spain is the country for you! The “Spanish way of life” has many irresistible ingredients: open minded and welcoming peoples, long hours of sunshine through the year and a rich gastronomy that Spaniards love to enjoy in company of others!

Here you can enjoy ground breaking, creative cuisine at Michelin starred restaurants as well as delicious traditional dishes at bars and local food markets. In fact, one of our favourite activities is going out with friends for “tapas” and “pintxos”, moving from one venue to another to sample small bites of delicious food bursting with flavour.

Even in the most traditional restaurants it is customary for the starters to be served as tapas or small aperitifs to share.

Hike (or dive!) in a protected natural space!

If you are passionate about nature, sports and adventure, keep reading!  Did you know that Spain is the second country in the world with the highest number of UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserves? In fact, almost a third of the land and around 12 percent of the marine surface areas are protected!  This means thousands of miles of hiking routes and bicycle tracks, perfect beaches for surfing and diving, horse riding routes along the coastline…. you name it!

Spain also maintains an active attitude towards promoting sustainable tourism, thanks to which you can enjoy protected natural resources such as forests, valleys, volcanoes, dunes, lakes, cliffs, waterfalls, canyons… and even marine prairies of oceanic Posidonia!

El Hierro (Canary Islands, Spain) is one of these natural jewels. This volcanic island, famous for its pristine natural spaces and an exceptional marine life, attracts hikers and divers from all over the world.

In 2014, it became the world’s first completely self-sufficient island with all-renewable energy sources, thanks to a hybrid hydro-wind electricity system!

The island of El Hierro (Canary Islands) is one of Spain’s 52 spaces declared Biosphere Reserves by the UNESCO. It has 46 dive sites and a spectacular volcanic scenery full of contrasts.

Relax in a coastal city…. or enjoy water sports!

When was the last time you stretched out on the beach to watch the sunset, sinking your toes into the sand, and gazing at the sky? If you are looking to enjoy some peace and quiet, leaving all of your stress and daily routine behind, there are plenty of destinations in Spain that will help you unwind.

Swimming in the open sea, hiking to soft sandy beaches and cycling along the seafront are just some of the activities on offer in the coastline. You can also set sail and discover small coves of turquoise waters, eat fresh fish next to the port, admire sunsets with spectacular views and enjoy entertainment activities at night.

Spain is also an ideal destination for water sports enthusiasts, as it is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the Cantabrian Sea. The sun shines for most of the year and some places simply have perfect weather conditions for water sports, including surfing and diving. There’s no room for boredom here!

Join the locals in their celebrations!

Any time of year is a good time to visit Spain! There are cultural and sporting activities throughout the year as well as many festivals to join in on the fun with the locals. From small charming fiestas to mega-festivals, in Spain there are options for all ages and tastes!

Especially great news is that the famous Saint James Way (also known as “El Camino”), is currently celebrating the Xacobeo Holy Year, which will be extended over two consecutive years (2021 and 2022) for the very first time.

Walking the Camino (Saint James Way)

Embarking on this historical route represents an experience that is a combination of personal challenge, finding oneself, sport, nature and an interest in history and art, and the celebrations of the Xacobeo Holy Year add many interesting events to enjoy in the different routes: concerts, films, conferences, educational activities, local cuisine, and much more!
